INTER: A European Cultural Studies Conference in Sweden
ACSIS, Norrköping 11-13 June 2007
11-13 June 2007 ACSIS organised INTER: A European Cultural Studies Conference in Sweden in collaboration with the European branch of the Association for Cultural Studies (ACS). The conference was open to advanced students and researchers committed to cultural studies, and the number of registered participants was more than 200. The event was located at the Louis De Geer Congress & Concert Hall, Louis De Geer Flygeln, Värmekyrkan and Linköping University campus in Norrköping.
The “inter” keyword is meant to summarise a series of challenges and opportunities for cultural research, each of which was in focus one of the three days: spatial internationalisation, temporal interepochality and organisational interdisciplinarity. This also relate to issues of intertextuality, intermediality, interactivity and intersectionality.
All plenaries and most paper sessions were held in English, but there was also a few limited parallel group activities in Swedish and with a national focus. There was a focus on European borders and links, strengthened by collaboration with the European branch of the Association for Cultural Studies (ACS). The European ACS Board members assisted in planning the event, and there was a slot in the programme for an ACS European meeting. The national board of the Swedish ACSIS served as a programme committee for the conference, and a local arrangement committee at Linköping University assisted the conference organiser Bodil Axelsson and the initiator Johan Fornäs in preparing and carrying through the conference.
The conference was funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, the Swedish Research Council, Wenner-Gren Foundations and Linköping University.
